AfroFree is an onomatopoeic combination that has no meaning. It's simply an indication of the group's interests in rhythms, polyrhythms and African polymetry, as well as the modality and characteristics of the music of North Africa. However, the musical inspirations one can hear in the group's music have a much broader range.
The material collected on their debut album is inspired by what is generally known as Carpathian music, and specifically by the Subcarpathian melodies of the Podgórze Strzyżowskie region. Balkan influences can also be heard in the music, although this is mainly the result of instruments being used that are characteristic for that region.
