about

Michał Wierba – piano
Maciej Sikała – saxophones: tenor & soprano
Jakub Dworak – bass
Arek Skolik – drums
Bogusz Wekka – percussion

Musical space of the sort we encounter on a daily basis, in its truly unlimited abundance, receives another wonderful gift. The potential of a young, surprising and intricate language in which planes and layers interweave, at once the focus and a moving background. In what would seem typically pianistic measures of changing the function of the register, shifting the phrase, as well as accenting it at an unexpected moment, a composition and its sectional performance acquire incredible, orchestral qualities. The presence of colors of the intermixed textures of piano and bass, in often mutually penetrating beautiful melodies, with superbly balanced elements of percussion create a very interesting structural outline, making for an articulate composition in the theme and solos, despite multiple deconstructions. The young and talented composer, arranger and pianist Michał Wierba is adding something quite new and fresh to this jazz melting pot for us. He has perfected his abilities under the eye of outstanding Polish jazz pianists, to spread his wings now in subsequent flights, revealing an emergent personal artistic horizon.
(Marek Bałata)
