Chord Nation came to being as a concert suite mainly out of na?veté, courage and lack of better judgement. In the time of economic turmoil there was something pure about making things without thinking about limitations. Music that is not a product of a calculated effort to make touring profitable, or to make lots of sales by utilizing harmonic devices and cosmetic cleaning that appeal to a presumed broader audience. I believe that music is meant to be a group effort, and assembling a group as big as this one has all the qualities of building a community – one that has its own internal set of references, language and values. And providing that a healthy community is diverse and inclusive I invited musicians from 3 different countries and three different approaches towards music – classical, mainstream and free jazz. This is also why the suite is called Chord Nation. As a concert piece it was meant to be heard in full. Today this kind of attitude towards listening to music is hard to find, but have in mind that some compositional devices present in this suite rely on the order of the pieces.

I was blown away by this music. It’s powerful, creative, intricate, soulful... quite extraordinary. The textures are wonderful, and the musical ideas are so original. I really, really love it.
